The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reaffirming a directive that assigns party leadership roles in states without governors from the All Progressives Congress.
Under the directive, the highest ranking political office holder in such states is tasked with overseeing party affairs. This development positions Kalu to take charge of the APC’s structure and mobilisation efforts in Abia State as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
In a statement shared on social media, Kalu revealed that the President reiterated the directive during a recent engagement in Abuja. He explained that the framework ensures a balanced approach to party administration, with governors managing affairs in APC controlled states, while senior political figures assume responsibility in opposition controlled regions.
Kalu expressed appreciation to the President for maintaining consistency in implementing the arrangement, noting that it has already been applied across party congresses at ward, local government, and state levels. According to him, the strategy has contributed significantly to strengthening unity within the party in Abia.
He also commended the party’s National Working Committee for its continued support and coordination, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to achieve electoral success.
Looking ahead, Kalu voiced confidence in the APC’s growing strength in the state, describing the party as more united and forward looking than ever before. He pledged to work closely with party members and supporters to secure a decisive victory in Abia during the 2027 elections.
