Ikorodu Celebrates as Orion and Leon FC Retain Spires Street Soccer Title in Dominant Fashion

There was jubilation in Ikorodu on Saturday as the grand finale of the Spires 5 a side Naija Street Soccer Tournament brought thrilling football action to Deeonis Football Courts, Ota Ona.

The competition ended in spectacular fashion as Orion and Leon Football Club defeated New Generation FC 7 0 to retain their crown and emerge back to back champions of Ikorodu Division. The emphatic victory delighted hundreds of fans who gathered to witness the final showdown.

Coach Biyi Adesonya’s side dominated proceedings from start to finish, combining pace, precision, and ing flair to overwhelm their opponents. Their victory earned them a cash prize of N500,000, while New Generation FC received N300,000 as runners up.

In the third place playoff, Diamond Football Club secured victory and went home with N100,000. The tournament also recognized individual excellence, with Samuel Emmanuel of Orion and Leon FC winning the top scorer award alongside a cash prize of N50,000.

All three top finishing teams will now represent Ikorodu Division at the upcoming state level championship scheduled for October, where they will compete against winners from other divisions across Lagos State.

The tournament organiser, Dr Bankole Allibay, expressed satisfaction with the success of the Ikorodu edition, noting that the competition had achieved its goal of promoting grassroots football development and youth engagement.

He added that future editions across other divisions would be improved to raise the standard of competition and scouting opportunities for young players.

The Spires 5 a side Naija Street Soccer Tournament will next move to Epe Division, with matches scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
