Dutch giants AFC Ajax have reportedly joined the race to sign Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez ahead of the summer transfer window, as the club looks to strengthen its defensive options for the 2026 to 2027 season.

The 24 year old centre back, Emmanuel Fernandez, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Scotland with Rangers F.C., elishing himself as a key figure in the team’s back line since his arrival last summer.

Fernandez, who previously played in the lower tiers of English football, has quickly risen to prominence after a consistent and impressive season. His performances have earned him a place in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year for the 2025 to 2026 season, a recognition voted for by fellow professional players.

In addition to his defensive solidity, the centre back has contributed offensively, scoring six goals in 28 appearances across all competitions. He has also been praised for his composure on the ball and his ability to initiate play from deep positions.

Reports suggest Ajax are monitoring the situation closely as they prepare for possible ces in their defensive unit. Uncertainty around the futures of several defenders has prompted the club to explore reinforcement options.

Scouting reports indicate that Fernandez fits Ajax recruitment philosophy, which focuses on young players with strong technical ability and potential for development and future resale value.

Rangers, however, are not under immediate pressure to sell and are expected to demand a strong offer for one of their emerging defensive stars. His rapid rise has attracted attention from several European clubs, setting up what could become a competitive transfer battle in the summer window.
