The owner of Coventry City, Doug King, has said the club is not concerned about speculation linking head coach Frank Lampard with a possible return to Chelsea, insisting that attention remains firmly on long term planning following promotion to the Premier League.

Lampard, who guided Coventry to the Championship title and secured a return to top flight football for the first time in over two decades, has been praised for his impact since taking charge in late 2024.

His success has naturally attracted interest from bigger clubs, including reports of a potential third spell at Chelsea.

However, King dismissed concerns about inility, saying the club is focused on building for the future rather than reacting to speculation. He described Lampard’s achievement as remarkable, especially given Coventry’s lack of financial advantages compared to other clubs in the Championship.

King noted that managerial speculation is common in football and often follows success, but emphasized that Lampard appears settled and fully committed to the project at Coventry. He highlighted the strong emotional connection between the coach and the club’s supporters and said he believes Lampard has found ility in his current role.

Despite this, he acknowledged that interest from top clubs is inevitable given the manager’s growing reputation.

As Coventry prepare for life in the Premier League, King said recruitment planning is already underway. He stressed that the club will prioritize smart spending and value driven signings rather than excessive investment, arguing that financial outlay alone does not guarantee success.

Coventry last competed in the Premier League in the 2000 to 2001 season and now face the challenge of elishing themselves among England’s elite. King admitted the task will be difficult but said the squad and coaching staff are motivated and ready for the challenge.

The club’s return marks a new chapter, with leadership focused on sustainability, competitiveness, and careful squad building as they prepare for the upcoming top flight campaign.
