Both players have had limited action in the Premier League, with Mainoo accumulating just 259 minutes and Zirkzee only 82 minutes this season, leading to their exclusion from national team considerations.

Amorim understands their ambitions but insists that the club’s priorities take precedence. He expressed a willingness to support Mainoo and Zirkzee, especially as opportunities for increased playing time may arise due to injuries and upcoming departures of other players for the Africa Cup of Nations. Mainoo and Zirkzee have been on the periphery of the team, with Zirkzee having not played since a substitution against Brighton in October.

Despite Amorim emphasizing that “we need everyone,” the lack of game time has fueled speculation about a January exit for both players. He reiterated his desire to assist them by sharing insights from his own experiences as a former player, recognizing the significance of the World Cup while maintaining that Manchester United’s immediate needs come first.

Furthermore, Amorim acknowledged the struggles of Manuel Ugarte in adapting to Premier League demands, stressing that many talented players often face challenges when joining the club. After a poor start to the season, United is now unbeaten in five games and has climbed to tenth in the league. However, Amorim cautioned against complacency, urging continuous urgency as the team’s challenges are far from over.
