Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Sidelined With Hamstring Injury, Expected for World Cup

FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury but is expected to recover in time for the FIFA World Cup 2026, according to an official club update.

Barcelona confirmed that medical tests revealed a left leg hamstring injury, with the 17 year old set to undergo conservative treatment. The club stated that Yamal will miss the remainder of the season but is expected to be available for the World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19.

Yamal picked up the injury during Barcelona’s 1 to 0 victory over RC Celta de Vigo in La Liga. After converting a penalty that secured the win, he immediately pulled up in discomfort and required treatment before being substituted.

Despite his absence for the closing stage of the domestic season, the young winger remains a key figure for Spain as they prepare for the World Cup. Spain will compete in Group H, opening their campaign against Cape Verde on June 15, followed by matches against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

Yamal has quickly become one of Spain’s brightest talents since making his senior debut in 2023, scoring six goals in 25 international appearances. His creativity and pace have made him a central figure in Spain’s ing plans.

Barcelona currently lead La Liga by nine points ahead of rivals Real Madrid, with a crucial El Clasico still to come on May 10.
