The faction of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark has dismissed reports suggesting it is in talks with the Peoples Redemption Party, insisting its priority remains an ongoing legal battle that could shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group is currently awaiting a decisive ruling from the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which is set to hear its appeal against a lower court judgment restraining Mark from parading himself as the party’s national chairman.

Addressing the speculation, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi described claims of alliance talks as false and misleading. He emphasized that the party leadership is not engaged in any negotiations with other political platforms, noting that the focus is on overturning what it considers unlawful actions affecting its leadership.

According to Abdullahi, the legal fight goes beyond party politics and touches on the broader integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system. He added that the faction remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting multiparty democracy.

The dispute stems from earlier court rulings involving a leadership tussle within the party. A former deputy national chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, had challenged the legitimacy of the Mark led leadership, prompting a series of legal battles that have now reached the apex court.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has withdrawn recognition of both factions pending the final court decision, further intensifying tensions within the party.

In a related development, ADC youth members have announced plans to stage protests at INEC offices in Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa states under the #AmupitanMustGo campaign. The demonstrations are aimed at demanding accountability and the restoration of what they describe as legitimate party leadership.

The unfolding situation has attracted the attention of key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, all of whom have participated in recent protests calling for electoral fairness.

As the Supreme Court prepares to deliver its ruling, the outcome is expected to have significant implications for party leadership, opposition alignment, and Nigeria’s political trajectory heading into 2027.
