The United States government has issued a security alert to its citizens in Nigeria following escalating hostilities between the US and Iran.

In a statement released on Monday, US authorities urged Americans abroad to remain vigilant amid ongoing military operations involving Iran. The advisory stated that following the launch of US combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide especially those in the Middle East should adhere strictly to guidance from the nearest US embassy or consulate.

The United States Department of State warned that citizens could face travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures linked to the unfolding crisis. It advised Americans globally to exercise increased caution and closely monitor official security updates.

Citizens were encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive timely alerts and to follow the Department of State Security Updates for US Citizens WhatsApp channel for further information.

The advisory comes amid reports by Iranian state and local media confirming the death of Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel. Several other senior Iranian officials were also reported killed in the strikes.

In retaliation, Iran is said to have launched multiple missiles targeting US bases in Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, vowing to avenge the deaths of its top leaders.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, speaking during a live broadcast on Saturday, declared his determination to eliminate members of the Iranian regime. He also urged Iranian citizens to take control of their government once military operations conclude.
