The United States military has confirmed that three of its service members have been killed in action and five others seriously wounded during ongoing combat operations against Iran, marking the first confirmed American combat casualties in the conflict.

The announcement was made on Sunday by US Central Command, which said the casualties occurred as part of Operation Epic Fury, a major military campaign involving intense strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure. Several additional U.S. personnel sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are being returned to duty.

CENTCOM said that major combat operations are continuing and described the situation as fluid, adding that the identities of the fallen service members will be withheld until next of kin have been notified.

The U.S. military action against Iran began with coordinated strikes involving U.S. and Israeli forces. Iranian retaliation has included missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases and allied positions across the Middle East. Reports indicate widespread regional tension and escalation following days of military engagement.

As the conflict continues more details are expected to emerge about the circumstances of the U.S. casualties and the broader implications for regional security and ongoing operations.
