President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian American basketball star Ejimofor Anosike following his outstanding performance in the 2026 National Basketball League championship in China.

Anosike, who plays for the Hong Kong Bulls, delivered a remarkable season, winning the Finals Most Valuable Player award, Best International Player award, and the Slam Dunk Champion title as his team secured the league championship.

In a statement issued by the Presidency through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the achievement as a moment of national pride and a strong inspiration for young athletes across Africa.

The President praised Anosike for maintaining strong ties with Nigeria despite his international success, noting his continued commitment to the national basketball team, the D’Tigers.

He said the player’s dedication demonstrated that global recognition has not weakened his sense of patriotism, but rather strengthened his role as an ambassador of Nigerian sports excellence.

Tinubu also highlighted that Anosike’s success reflects the growing global influence of Nigerian athletes and reinforces the importance of sustained investment in youth development and sports infrastructure.

Anosike, who holds dual Nigerian and American citizenship, continues to balance his professional career in Asia with regular participation in international duties for Nigeria, further strengthening his reputation as one of the country’s prominent basketball exports.
