Third Mainland Bridge Rehabilitation Cost N43 Billion, CCTV Centre N2.5 Billion – Minister Umahi

Lagos — The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has disclosed that the total rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State cost N43 billion, while the bridge’s Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Centre cost about N2.5 billion.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Umahi said the scope of work covered the total rehabilitation of the 14 km bridge, which is 14 metres wide with two carriageways. The project also included rebuilding and repainting concrete works, replacing expansion joints, and installing solar lights.

“The total contract sum for rehabilitation of the bridge is N43 billion. The cost of the CCTV centre is not more than N2.5 billion,” Umahi stated. He added that the Federal Government initiated a total re-evaluation of the Third Mainland, Carter, and Iddo bridges due to their deteriorated state, both above and below the water surface.

The CCTV centre, he explained, was part of the rehabilitation contract. Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olufemi Dare, described the facility as the first of its kind in Nigeria.

“The centre is equipped with a surveillance boat, two Hilux vans, 240 solar panels, 10 inverters, a 300 KVA transformer, a standby generator, air-conditioning, and monitoring screens,” Dare said.

The CCTV facility is expected to enhance security and traffic monitoring on the Third Mainland Bridge, providing real-time surveillance and rapid response capabilities to ensure the safety of commuters and infrastructure.
