Liverpool F.C. forward Hugo Ekitike is reportedly set to miss the remainder of the season and the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a severe Achilles tendon rupture during the club’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Paris Saint Germain.

The 23 year old French striker picked up the injury midway through the first half at Anfield after attempting to accelerate, before collapsing to the pitch in visible distress. He was later taken off on a stretcher, with early medical assessments suggesting a recovery period of around nine months.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot described the injury as “very serious,” admitting after the match that the situation “does not look good” and that the club would await further medical evaluation.
