The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with Ijebu Ode Local Government, has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that three prominent traditional chiefs in Ijebu land were suspended from the Council of Chiefs.

A joint statement by Commissioner Ganiyu Hamzat and Ijebu Ode Chairman Dare Alebiosu described the reports as false, misleading, and deliberate attempts to create tension. The chiefs mentioned in the viral claims include the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla, Lapoekun, Chief Tunde Odulaja, and Madasa, Chief Lekan Oshifeso. The ministry emphasized that no suspension was approved or carried out by any recognized traditional institution or the state government.

The statement urged the public to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official communication channels for accurate information regarding traditional leadership and chieftaincy matters.

Meanwhile, Chief Adetokunbo Fassy Yusuf, Secretary of the Ijebu Council of Chiefs and Vice Chairman of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, called on the Ogun State government to investigate alleged corruption attempts and take action against individuals undermining the selection of the new Awujale of Ijebuland. Yusuf condemned attempts to promote specific candidates, stressing that the 2022 Obas and Chiefs Law treats all eligible princes equally.

He highlighted that the selection process began with 95 nominations, later reduced to 86 to comply with the law and avoid litigation. Yusuf urged transparency and accountability, warning that anyone mismanaging the process should be held responsible to ensure a smooth and credible selection of the Awujale.
