The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Ijebu Ode Local Government, has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that three prominent traditional chiefs in Ijebu land have been suspended from the Council of Chiefs.
In a joint statement signed by the State Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, the authorities described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create tension within the community.
The chiefs named in the viral reports include the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla; the Lapoekun of Ijebu land, Chief Tunde Odulaja; and the Madasa of Ijebu land, Chief Lekan Oshifeso. Both the ministry and local government emphasized that no suspension has been approved or carried out by any recognized traditional institution or the Ogun State Government concerning the named chiefs.
The statement further highlighted that chieftaincy matters are governed by established laws, customs, and due process, none of which have been initiated against these traditional titleholders. Authorities described the social media publication as the work of mischief makers and urged the public to disregard it.
Residents were advised to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause confusion or undermine traditional institutions. They were also encouraged to rely solely on official government communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding traditional leadership and chieftaincy affairs.
This clarification seeks to protect the integrity of Ijebu land’s traditional institutions and maintain peace within the community. The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding due process and ensuring that all chieftaincy matters are handled transparently and in accordance with the law.
I believe the Ogun government should provide more transparency to avoid further confusion. What do you guys think?
I dont buy it, theres more to this story. Ogun government needs to come clean! What do you guys think?
I find it hard to believe the governments denial. There must be some truth to the rumors. What do you all think?
I dont trust the governments word on this. Something seems fishy. Whos really pulling the strings behind the scenes?
