Nigerian Army Retires 15 Senior Officers from Artillery Corps

The Nigerian Army has officially retired 15 senior officers from its Artillery Corps, marking a significant transition within its ranks. Among the retired personnel are 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, all of whom have been instrumental in providing heavy firepower support during their service.

The retirement ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, where the contributions and service of the outgoing officers were acknowledged. The Artillery Corps plays a critical role in delivering artillery support in various military operations, enhancing the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Army.

In a social media post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Nigerian Army highlighted the achievements of the retiring officers. The post read: “The Nigerian Army formally pulled out 15 retired generals from the Artillery Corps on Saturday, October 19, 2024, during a ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State. The group of retirees included 11 Major Generals and 4 Brigadier Generals.”

During the pulling-out parade, Maj Gen James Myam (retd.), speaking on behalf of the retired officers, reflected on their long military careers, expressing both fulfilment and gratitude. He credited their successful service to divine grace and acknowledged God’s protection throughout their careers. He also expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and extended his thanks to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, wishing him continued success in his leadership of the Nigerian Army.

Maj Gen Myam reminisced about the start of their military journeys when they first reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as Officer Cadets. He also offered advice to the current officers, urging them to remain loyal to the Nigerian Constitution and the democratically elected government while maintaining a high level of vigilance and security consciousness.

The retired general further expressed his gratitude to the families, spouses, friends, instructors, and mentors who supported them throughout their careers. The event saw the attendance of several senior retired and serving military officers, including former Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Alwali Kazir (retd), underscoring the importance and respect given to the retiring officers.

The ceremony was not only a celebration of their service but also a moment to inspire continued dedication and loyalty among the serving personnel.
