The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged armed robbery and financial fraud following a coordinated joint security operation involving the Police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and a local vigilante group.

The arrest is part of sustained security operations across the state aimed at combating criminal activities. It will be recalled that on January 2, the command arrested seven suspects and recovered stolen items including a motorcycle, window glasses, air conditioners and illicit drugs during operations conducted in different parts of the state. Similarly, on January 1, a total of 17 suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from armed robbery and drug dealing to vandalism, with firearms, narcotics and stolen items recovered.

In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Dutse, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the latest operation was carried out on January 10, 2026. According to him, the operation took place at Bariki Fulani Settlement, Rugar Fulani and Kwangara Village, all within Sundumina District of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

Adam identified the suspects as Adamu Abubakar, 30; Sale Yakubu, 30; and Mamman Saidu, 17, noting that they are currently in custody. He said exhibits recovered during the operation include a locally made gun, two red Boxer motorcycles, fake Somali shillings, mobile phones, a power bank, a knife and a machete. The sum of ₦289,620, suspected to be proceeds of crime, was also recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly lured unsuspecting victims to the area under the guise of exchanging foreign currency before robbing them of their valuables.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the commitment of security agencies in Jigawa State to maintaining peace and security. He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
