Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Nigeria U20 women’s national football team, have stepped up preparations ahead of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup final qualifying clash against Malawi scheduled for May 2.
The team have been in intensive training camp in Abuja as they fine tune tactics and strengthen cohesion ahead of the first leg encounter. Coaches have focused on tactical discipline, team organisation, and match strategy in preparation for the decisive fixture.
Head coach Moses Aduku expressed confidence in the readiness of his squad, noting that preparations had reached an advanced stage and attention had shifted fully to tactical execution.
He said the players are fully focused on the assignment and believes they are well positioned to secure a positive result in the first leg. According to him, the squad is in high spirits with strong morale and no reported injury concerns.
The technical crew have also been working on integrating players from various clubs to ensure balance and cohesion within a short preparation window. Aduku emphasized the importance of teamwork and discipline as key factors for success.
Nigeria advanced to this stage after defeating Senegal 3 1 on aggregate in the previous round, following a 1 0 home win and a 2 1 away victory. They had earlier eliminated Rwanda with a 5 0 aggregate scoreline.
Their opponents, Malawi, come into the fixture in strong form after a 6 2 aggregate win over Guinea Bissau, including a dominant home performance in Lilongwe.
Aduku appealed for continued support from fans, urging Nigerians to keep faith with the team as they target qualification for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland in 2026.
The return leg of the qualifier will be played in Lilongwe on May 9, where both teams will battle for a place at the global tournament.
