DSS Detains Five Security Officers Over El Rufai Airport Incident

The Department of State Services DSS has detained five security officers over alleged misconduct linked to the return of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El Rufai to Nigeria on February 12 2026.

The officers were accused of compromising security procedures at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja by granting the former governor access to restricted areas of the airport. According to an official statement the men allegedly received bribes to facilitate unauthorised entry and obstruct lawful security operations.

Those detained include personnel from the Nigeria Police Force the Department of State Services the Nigeria Immigration Service and Aviation Security. The officers named are Ayuba Yakubu an Assistant Superintendent of Police Murtala Inuwa a DSS operative Najeeb Murtala an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration and Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor both of Aviation Security.

Security sources disclosed that the arrests followed a joint investigation involving the DSS the Nigeria Immigration Service the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Ministry of Aviation. The investigation concluded that the officers acted in breach of established protocols designed to safeguard sensitive areas of the airport.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for prosecution. Authorities also indicated that other officers who did not receive bribes but abused their official positions would face administrative sanctions.

The development has sparked conversations about discipline and accountability within Nigerias security architecture as well as the broader implications for public trust in law enforcement institutions.
