Bernardo Silva will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the season, the Premier League champions confirmed on Thursday, marking the end of a highly decorated nine year spell at the club.

The 31 year old Portuguese playmaker joined City from AS Monaco in 2017 for £43 million and has since become one of the most influential figures in the club’s modern era. He made more than 450 appearances under manager Pep Guardiola, winning 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

City described his contribution as “incalculable,” highlighting his role in their most successful period in history. Silva was also part of the historic treble winning side in the 2022 to 2023 season, where the club secured the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in a single campaign.

Over his City career, Silva scored 76 goals and provided 77 assists, consistently playing a key role in midfield creativity and tactical flexibility. He also moved into the club’s top 10 all time appearance list, surpassing several former legends.

He added that the city had also become a personal home where he started his family life, expressing gratitude for the memories and achievements shared both on and off the pitch.

Manchester City stated that Silva will continue to focus on helping the club in the final weeks of the season as they pursue further trophies. The club also described him as one of the greatest and most popular players in its history.

Silva’s departure marks the end of an era at the Etihad Stadium, with fans set to bid farewell to one of the most consistent performers of the Guardiola era.
