Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised the efforts of Nigerian solrs following the successful rescue of abducted passengers, including candidates preparing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Benue State.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, Atiku applauded troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, highlighting their professionalism and unwavering commitment to protecting civilians. He described the operation as a strong demonstration of courage and dedication by the armed forces.
The rescue mission took place along the Makurdi Otukpo Road, a route that has witnessed security challenges in recent times. Among those rescued were young UTME candidates whose safety, according to Atiku, has preserved their hopes and future aspirations.
“The gallant troops have once again shown their commitment to safeguarding innocent Nigerians,” Atiku stated, emphasizing that the timely intervention ensured that the affected students could continue pursuing their educational goals without disruption.
While celebrating the success, Atiku stressed that more needs to be done to tackle insecurity across the country. He called for sustained improvements in Nigeria’s security framework to guarantee the safety of citizens nationwide.
He also urged the government to provide better support, training, and equipment for security personnel, noting that their role remains critical in maintaining peace and ility.
Atiku concluded by expressing optimism about the country’s future, stating that Nigeria can achieve lasting security if those tasked with defending the nation are adequately supported and empowered.
