The All Progressives Congress has reinforced its commitment to national unity and internal democratic processes following the successful conduct of its Sokoto State Congress, where new state executives emerged through a consensus arrangement.
The congress, supervised by State Congress Committee Chairman Professor Muztaz Aliyu Abubakar, was widely described by stakeholders as peaceful and transparent. Party leaders noted that the orderly process reflected the APC renewed focus on discipline, cohesion, and grassroots consolidation across Nigeria.
At the end of the exercise, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiyya was elected State Chairman, while Alhaji Yahaya Buhari emerged as Deputy Chairman. Barrister Bello Abdullahi was elected State Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar S Fada as Assistant Secretary, and Alhaji Muhammad Umar as Public Relations Officer, alongside other members of the State Executive Committee.
In his remarks, outgoing State Chairman Hon Isah Sadeeq Achida expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, and members for their support during his tenure. He described the congress as a defining moment for the APC in Sokoto State and across Nigeria, emphasizing that the peaceful consensus process demonstrated political maturity and a shared vision.
Achida urged the newly elected executives to strengthen grassroots structures, promote internal democracy, and align the state chapter with the APC broader national agenda. He stressed that unity remains central to electoral success and sustainable governance.
Newly elected Chairman Adiyya described his emergence as a collective victory for all party members in Sokoto State. He pledged to lead an inclusive and transparent administration focused on results, stakeholder engagement, and party discipline in line with the APC national vision.
Observers say the peaceful conduct of the Sokoto congress signals deepening internal consolidation within the party ahead of future electoral cycles.
