A faction of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal over alleged misconduct and gross indiscipline.

The announcement was made in Yola by the factional chairman, Raji Zumo, who addressed journalists on the development. He stated that the decision followed accusations that the affected individuals acted in ways that undermined the integrity and unity of the party.

According to Zumo, the suspension also extends to members of the executive council led by Sadiq Dasin. He explained that those impacted by the decision would face further disciplinary procedures as the faction seeks to restore order within its ranks.

Zumo emphasized that the party is not owned by any individual, regardless of their political stature. He stressed that the ADC would resist any attempts to dominate or manipulate its internal processes for personal or group interests.

The faction also accused Atiku Abubakar and Babachir Lawal of attempting to impose candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. Zumo described such actions as damaging to the party’s reputation and warned that any conduct capable of bringing the party into disrepute would not be tolerated.

The development highlights ongoing internal tensions within the ADC, particularly in Adamawa State, as different factions struggle for control and influence ahead of future elections.

Political observers say the situation could have broader implications for the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects if not resolved through dialogue and reconciliation.
