Billionaire industrialist and BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has confirmed that he will honour his $500,000 pledge to Nigeria’s Super Eagles despite the team’s semi-final defeat at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sharing a message on his official Instagram page, Rabiu praised the players for their resilience, courage, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. “You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.

Rabiu emphasized that results do not always reflect effort, highlighting the importance of passion, unity, and determination. “Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” he added.

The BUA Group chairman’s gesture underscores his commitment to supporting Nigerian football and recognising hard work and dedication, even in the absence of silverware. Rabiu initially pledged the $500,000 reward ahead of the tournament as motivation for the team in their quest for continental glory.

Nigeria impressed with their performance at AFCON 2025, reaching the semi-finals before losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco after a goalless draw in regulation and extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. While the team fell short of lifting the trophy, their efforts earned widespread praise from fans, pundits, and now benefactors like Rabiu.

In closing, Rabiu encouraged the players to remain positive and focus on the lessons learned, confident that the experience gained will fuel greater achievements in future competitions. His pledge reflects the enduring spirit of support and celebration for Nigerian football, demonstrating that commitment and excellence are valued, even in defeat.
