Yobe State Governor Constitutes Committee on New National Minimum Wage Implementation

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the formation of a 10-member committee to oversee the implementation of the new national minimum wage recently approved by the federal government. This announcement was made in a statement signed by the Head of Civil Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, will serve as the committee’s Chairman, while the Head of the Civil Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, will act as the Co-Chairman. The Permanent Secretary of Establishment, Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Alhaji Dr. Bukar Kilo, have been appointed as the committee’s secretary and co-secretary, respectively.

The committee also includes key officials such as the Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Abatcha Geidam, the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Garba Gagiyo, and the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Jajere. Additional members are the State Accountant General, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Mukhtar Musa Tarabutu, and the representative of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bulama Musa.

The committee has been tasked with developing strategies to ensure the successful implementation of the new minimum wage in Yobe State. It will assess the financial implications of the new wage structure for both the state and local government levels. The committee is also expected to make recommendations for the government’s consideration to ensure smooth execution.

This step is part of the state government’s commitment to align with federal directives and ensure that civil servants receive fair compensation in accordance with the new national standards.
