Ayodele Fayose Distances Himself from PDP Crisis, Denies Interest in National Chair Position

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has publicly distanced himself from the ongoing internal conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The crisis, which has been intensifying since the 2023 presidential election, centers around the position of Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman.

The situation escalated on September 18 when Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, held a meeting with the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT). During the meeting, Mohammed expressed dissatisfaction with Damagum’s continued role as acting national chairman, indicating that his tenure was no longer acceptable.

Amid these tensions, Fayose took to Twitter on Saturday to clarify his position. He stated unequivocally that he has no interest in taking up the role of national chair, distancing himself from the ongoing power struggle within the party.

Fayose also advised the public to be cautious when interpreting reports that mention his name. He emphasized that there are several individuals in Nigeria with the Fayose surname, urging people to verify the authenticity of such reports before drawing conclusions.

As the PDP’s internal dispute continues to unfold, Fayose’s statement aims to dispel rumors and ensure that his name is not misused in connection with the leadership battle. His announcement signals his intention to remain uninvolved in the party’s leadership controversies while maintaining his focus on other interests.
