Nigerian music icon Wizkid has ignited fresh controversy with a series of provocative social media posts, where he appeared to take direct shots at fellow Afrobeats superstar, Davido. The feud escalated when Wizkid, on Wednesday, mocked Davido’s self-proclaimed title of “001,” a nickname often associated with being the top figure in the Nigerian music industry.
In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, Wizkid wrote, “The only time u’re 001 is when u’re in your house. U’re not 001 of nothing but Instagram followers!” This jab seemingly referred to Davido’s massive social media following, hinting that his influence was confined to the digital world rather than real-life success.
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, didn’t stop there. He took further aim at Davido’s entourage, accusing the “Timeless” singer of surrounding himself with people who depend on him financially. He remarked, “Naija is a place the rich weaponize poverty so u carry all these broke boys in real life and get them visas so they worship u.” This comment was seen as a direct critique of Davido’s well-known practice of supporting friends and family by offering them opportunities and resources, which Wizkid implied was more about control than generosity.
Adding another layer to the controversy, Wizkid also appeared to throw a subtle jab at Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, who is popularly known as the “Dancing Governor” due to his viral dance videos. Wizkid quipped, “When u see people wey dem papa and family train, u go know! U don’t see my uncle dancing online,” drawing a comparison between his own family’s demeanor and that of Davido’s, insinuating a lack of discipline.
The posts have since sparked widespread reactions among fans, with some siding with Wizkid for his confidence and candid remarks, while others expressed disappointment in the ongoing rivalry between two of Nigeria’s biggest music stars. As the war of words continues, it remains to be seen whether this public spat will escalate further or if both artists will eventually settle their differences.
