Edo PDP Boycotts Peace Accord Over Arrest of Party Members

In the -up to the 21, 2024, Edo governorship election, the People’s Party (PDP) has opted of a peace accord intended to ensure a peaceful election. The event, held in Benin on September 12, saw the presence of PDP State Chairman Aziegbemi and the party’s , Asue Ighodalo, who chose not to sign the agreement.

Aziegbemi that their refusal in protest of the arrest of 10 PDP by the in , arguing that the party could not to the peace accord while its members were detained without trial. also expressed over perceived bias from the police, it could affect the election’s fairness.

Despite the PDP’s stance, 17 other parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party, signed the peace deal, which was facilitated by the National Peace Committee. The peace accord is seen as crucial for ensuring a -violent and orderly election.
