In a strategic move to enhance its distribution network and alleviate road congestion, Dangote Group has announced plans to transport refined petroleum products by sea. This significant development was revealed on Sunday by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, the Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations.
The announcement comes as part of the ongoing efforts to optimize the operations of Dangote’s refinery, which is located in the Lekki Free Zone. Wali-Abdurrahman highlighted that a new jetty is currently under construction to facilitate the handling of bulk cargoes. This jetty will play a crucial role in the transportation of refined petroleum products, enabling the group to export its products to various African countries via the seaport.
“The jetty will allow us to ease the pressure on the roads from the refinery by transporting finished petroleum products to other ports along the Nigerian coast,” Wali-Abdurrahman stated. This initiative aims not only to streamline logistics but also to improve the efficiency of distribution to inland regions. By leveraging maritime routes, Dangote Group is poised to enhance its supply chain, ensuring a reliable flow of refined products to meet the growing demand in Nigeria and beyond.
This development is particularly significant given Nigeria’s robust oil industry and the increasing need for efficient transportation solutions. By shifting to sea transport, Dangote Group aims to reduce transportation costs and improve delivery times, which could lead to lower prices for consumers and increased competitiveness in the market.
Overall, this initiative reflects Dangote Group’s commitment to innovation and sustainable practices in the petroleum sector. As the company continues to expand its operations, the strategic use of maritime transport could set a precedent for other players in the industry, fostering a more resilient and efficient supply chain in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
