‘Iyanu’ Animated Series Premieres on Cartoon Network

The animated series “Iyanu: Child of Wonder” premiered on Cartoon Network on April 5, 2025, with streaming available on Max starting April 6, 2025. Adapted from Roye Okupe’s graphic novel series, the show is set in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland and follows Iyanu, a young orphan who discovers she possesses divine powers reminiscent of the legendary Age of Wonders. Accompanied by her friends Biyi and Toye, Iyanu embarks on a journey to uncover the source of an ancient evil threatening her homeland.

The series features an all-African voice cast, including Serah Johnson as Iyanu, Okey Jude as Biyi, Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Olori, Blossom Chukwujekwu as Kanfo, Stella Damasus as Sewa, Shaffy Bello as Emi, and Ike Ononye as Elder Alapani. The writers’ room was led by Brandon Easton, with contributions from Emmy winner Kerri Grant.

The theme song, “You Are,” performed by Nigerian Afropop artist Yemi Alade, was released on March 13, 2025, coinciding with Alade’s birthday. The track became available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.

For audiences in Africa, the series premiered on Showmax on June 13, 2025, across 44 countries.
