The Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company has announced a new framework designed to help customers repay outstanding electricity debts across its franchise areas.

In a notice issued on Sunday, the electricity distribution company explained that the initiative aims to improve billing transparency, strengthen revenue recovery and ensure the sustainability of electricity supply within its service regions.

According to the management, customers currently being metered under national and company led metering programmes will have their verified outstanding electricity debts migrated to their newly installed or previously installed meters.

The company stated that the framework will provide customers with a clearer understanding of their electricity debt profiles and offer them the opportunity to review and validate their balances using available account records.

The initiative mainly affects customers who were previously placed on estimated billing, those who had faulty or obsolete meters and unmetered customers who accumulated electricity charges before the installation of new meters.

The company explained that transferring verified debts to newly installed meters would allow customers to easily track their outstanding obligations and gradually settle them through a structured repayment plan.

To support this process, the distribution company has introduced a Debt Repayment Framework that enables customers to pay their debts in instalments based on the size of their outstanding balances.

Under the arrangement, residential customers classified as non maximum demand with debts between zero naira and one million naira will repay two thousand naira monthly. Commercial customers in the maximum demand category within the same debt range will repay two thousand five hundred naira each month.

Customers with debts between one million one naira and two million naira will pay ten thousand naira monthly. Those owing between two million one naira and five million naira will repay twenty thousand naira monthly.

For customers with debts ranging from five million one naira to ten million naira, the company requires a thirty percent upfront payment, while the remaining balance will be spread across six months. Customers owing more than ten million naira must also pay thirty percent immediately, with the outstanding balance cleared within nine months.

The company advised customers to visit designated Debt Recovery Officers or Customer Service Officers at any JED office across its franchise states to review and reconcile their electricity debt records.

The management also expressed appreciation to customers for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity service delivery and customer experience across its network.
