The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has affirmed its readiness to participate in the local council elections scheduled for Saturday, September 21, across all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state. The party is gearing up for the polls with a firm commitment to contesting vigorously, while also expressing strong concerns over potential electoral malpractices.

In a press statement released by the party’s publicity secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP voiced its determination to combat any attempts at rigging by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party has promised to resist any efforts to undermine the integrity of the election process, emphasizing its readiness to ensure a fair and transparent election.

The PDP’s statement also criticized the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) for what it described as a blatant disregard for its own guidelines. This criticism comes just four days before the election, raising concerns about the commission’s preparedness and adherence to established procedures.

The upcoming local council elections are seen as a crucial test for the political landscape in Imo State. The PDP’s stance highlights the heightened tension and competitive nature of the electoral process, with both major parties gearing up for a significant political contest. As the election day approaches, all eyes will be on how the electoral process unfolds and whether the PDP’s concerns about potential rigging will be addressed effectively.
