The 82nd Venice International Film Festival, scheduled from August 27 to September 6, 2025, has unveiled its lineup, featuring the action thriller “Motor City” in the Venice Spotlight section. Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film stars Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, and Pablo Schreiber. Set against the backdrop of Detroit, “Motor City” follows John Miller, portrayed by Ritchson, as he embarks on a quest for vengeance. The film is noted for its minimal dialogue, with reports indicating it contains only five lines of spoken words.
The Venice Spotlight section, which replaced the Horizons Extra strand, showcases eight films this year, including “Motor City.” Other films in this category are “Hijra” by Shahad Ameen, “Un Cabo Suelto” by Daniel Hendler, “Made in EU” by Stephan Komandarev, “La Hija de la Española” by Mariana Rondón and Marité Ugás, “À Bras-Le-Corps” by Marie-Elsa Sgualdo, “Calle Malaga” by Maryam Touzani, and “Ammazzare Stanca” by Daniele Vicari.
The Venice International Film Festival, established in 1932, is one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals globally. The 82nd edition will be held at the Venice Lido in Italy, with American filmmaker Alexander Payne serving as the Jury President for the main competition. Italian actress and model Emanuela Fanelli will host the opening and closing ceremonies. The festival will open with Paolo Sorrentino’s “La Grazia.”
