Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, “GNX,” has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the longest-running number one rap album on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. The album has maintained the top position for 22 consecutive weeks, surpassing the previous record of 21 weeks held by Pop Smoke’s posthumous release, “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon.”

Released in November 2024, “GNX” has been lauded for its innovative approach to West Coast hip-hop, blending personal narratives with cultural commentary. The album features collaborations with artists such as SZA, Roddy Ricch, and AZChike, contributing to its widespread acclaim. Critics have praised Lamar’s ability to evolve while staying true to his roots, with some considering it his most impressive work to date.

The success of “GNX” is further highlighted by its lead single, “Luther,” a collaboration with SZA. The track has set a new record on the Hot Rap Songs chart, spending 27 weeks at number one, surpassing Lamar’s own “Not Like Us,” which held the top spot for 26 weeks.

In addition to its chart-topping performance, “GNX” has achieved significant commercial success. It was the first rap album in 2025 to sell one million units in the United States, underscoring its widespread appeal.

The album’s impact extends beyond sales and streaming records. Lamar and SZA’s “Grand National Tour” has become the highest-grossing co-headlining tour in history, grossing $254.6 million and selling 1.1 million tickets across 23 shows. The tour has been praised for its dynamic performances and the chemistry between the two artists.

Lamar’s influence continues to grow, as evidenced by his historic performance at Super Bowl LIX. He became the first solo hip-hop artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, delivering a powerful 13-minute set that included hits like “Squabble Up,” “HUMBLE,” “DNA,” and “Not Like Us.” The performance was widely acclaimed and further solidified his status as a leading figure in the music industry.

“GNX” has not only broken records but also set new standards for what is possible in the rap genre. Its success reflects Lamar’s ability to innovate and resonate with a global audience, ensuring his place as one of the most influential artists of his generation.
