Details have emerged explaining why Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has decided to leave the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to reports from Sunday Sun, the primary reasons for this defection are centered around the upcoming 2027 elections and perceived threats to his re-election to the Senate.

Senator Nwoko, known for his outspoken critiques of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has been contemplating this move due to a strained relationship with PDP leadership within the state. Additionally, there are indications that former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, is planning to contest for the Delta North senatorial seat in 2027 under the PDP, potentially challenging Nwoko’s position.

Despite these motives being clear, Nwoko has not officially announced his defection as of the latest updates. When approached for a statement regarding his departure from the PDP, the senator did not confirm or deny the rumors but simply stated that his leaving the PDP would not be “now.”

This political maneuver suggests a strategic realignment ahead of future elections, aiming to secure a stronger political base or avoid internal competition within his former party.
