Senator Victor Umeh Condemns Nibo Community Attack, Calls for Action

Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh, has strong condemnation over the killing of in Nibo community during a traditional festival on Sunday. According to Umeh, the attack resulted in the death of 16 , a figure that significantly differs from the police , which claimed only five .

In a statement personally signed by him, Umeh highlighted the proximity of the incident to the Governor’s Lodge, noting that this reflects the deteriorating security situation in State under Governor Charles Soludo’s administration. He expressed over the increasing violence in the state, citing the rise in incidents of killings and kidnappings without sufficient action being taken to curb the crisis.

Umeh stated, “It is with and deep pain that I condemn the which took place in Nibo in Awka South Area of Anambra Central Senatorial District, in Anambra State on Sunday, 20th October, 2024. From the information I received from an indigene of Nibo who is a major stakeholder in the community, about 16 people were killed in the shooting, with several other injured persons still lying critically in hospitals.”

He further lamented the continued violence plaguing the state, pointing out the of visible efforts to the escalating insecurity. “It has been tales of killings and kidnappings across the state without any visible efforts to stem the tide for a long time now,” he said.

The senator extended his condolences to the affected families and the Nibo community. He called on those responsible for the violence to cease their , stressing that the ongoing insecurity the welfare and of Anambra State.

“While I commiserate with the families of the and Nibo Community, I urge people who are killing and kidnapping people in the state to lay down their arms. Killings and wasting of human lives go a long way in diminishing our state. These scare our people from returning home and discourage businesses and investments in Anambra State,” Umeh added.

The senator’s statement underscores the urgent need for improved security measures and proactive strategies to restore peace and stability in the state. He urged the state government to take decisive action to combat the violence and an environment conducive to business and community development.
