A tragic incident in Abocho, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man, Malam Abu Yusuf, due to a thunderstrike. The unfortunate event occurred around 5:40 PM on Thursday, coinciding with a heavy downpour in the community.
Residents have been left in shock and mourning following the incident. An indigene of Abocho, Dansoho Sulaiman, expressed his disbelief, stating that Yusuf was in good health prior to the tragic occurrence. He recounted the events leading to the incident, saying, “Someone very close to the family just called to inform me of his death. There was a heavy downpour in Abocho in the afternoon that continued into the evening. He was outside when suddenly there was thunder and lightning.”
Sulaiman noted that this type of tragedy had never before happened in Abocho, although he heard of a similar incident occurring in nearby Anyigba. The news has left the community in deep sorrow, particularly given Yusuf’s good health and active involvement in community life. He served as the Imam of Angwa community, further highlighting the loss felt by those around him.
Plans are underway to bury the deceased according to Islamic rites on Friday, as family members and community members come together to honor his memory.

I think we need to consider the possibility of foul play in the Imams death. Thunderstrike alone seems too convenient.
I think the lightning strike was a punishment from the gods for the Imams wrongdoings. Nature has its ways.
Wow, tragic news about the Imam. But can we talk about how thunder is just nature doing its thing? 🤷♂️ #ControversialOpinions
Seriously? Show some respect. A human life is more important than your thunder musings.
Wow, tragic news about the Imam. But why not focus on lightning safety measures instead of superstitions?
