Zelensky: Ukraine Readies for Diplomatic Discussions During Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is intensifying efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia, suggesting a potential shift towards peace negotiations. In a recent address, he announced a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing Ukraine’s strategic interests and securing international support.

National security advisers from 14 European Union countries and Canada met in Kyiv to discuss a comprehensive peace plan, focusing on a framework agreement that includes security guarantees, reconstruction, and economic recovery for Ukraine. Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from international partners during Russia’s invasion, emphasizing the importance of this new wave of diplomatic engagement.

Looking forward, a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing”—a group of European nations and allies—is scheduled for January 6 in Paris. The summit aims to solidify international backing for Ukraine and review the outcomes of the recent discussions among security advisers. Zelenskyy underscored the significance of starting the year with diplomacy and continuing dialogue with allies.

In a strategic move, Zelenskyy appointed General Kyrylo Budanov, head of military intelligence, as his new chief of staff, aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing peace talks. Budanov has been influential in intelligence operations and is expected to play a key role in diplomatic initiatives.

However, tensions remain high, as Russian authorities reported casualties due to Ukrainian drone strikes in Belgorod and Kursk, which Ukrainian officials denied targeting civilian areas.
