Wike Aligned PDP Faction Elects Abdulrahman Akinoso as Oyo State Chairman

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has elected Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso as its state chairman.

Akinoso, a professor in the Department of Food Technology at the University of Ibadan, emerged during the faction’s State Congress held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Oke Ado Ibadan over the weekend.

The congress was attended by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission and produced 38 other members of the State Executive Council of the party.

Among those elected were Abiola Olaonipekun as Secretary, Latifah Latifu as Woman Leader and A Adeleke as Youth Leader.

Members of the congress committee included Awoniyi Tolulope, Babatunde Gbadamosi, Queen Stepheine Oyechere, Yusuf Abidakun and Olumide Aguda, while Phillips Adeniyi served as secretary of the committee.

The congress was conducted amid heavy security presence and began around 12:30 pm before concluding in less than three hours. All executive members emerged through affirmation.

In his inaugural remarks Akinoso stated that the party’s immediate focus would be preparations for the 2027 general elections. He urged members to set aside internal disagreements and work together to strengthen the party through unity and membership mobilisation.

He also highlighted the importance of the party’s upcoming electronic membership registration exercise noting that it would help expand the PDP grassroots base across Oyo State.

According to him unity among party members remains critical for political growth and electoral success.

“Our immediate assignment is to key into the timetable for the 2027 general elections as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission. As directed by the National Caretaker Committee of the party our e membership registration will commence next week and we must fully participate in the membership drive,” he said.

Akinoso further stressed that political parties remain relevant only when they are able to win elections urging members to prioritise collective interests over internal divisions.
