Vice President Shettima Praises Imo State at 50, Highlights Achievements

Vice President Kashim Shettima has applauded Imo State for its remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s political, intellectual, and economic development over the past 50 years. Speaking at the state’s Golden Jubilee celebration, Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill message and described Imo as a key partner in national progress.

He singled out Governor Hope Uzodimma for transforming governance in the state, restoring discipline, planning, and institutional strength. Shettima highlighted Imo’s historic leaders, including Dr Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe, the late Sam Mbakwe, and former governor Rochas Okorocha, as well as its cultural icons like Chief Flora Nwapa, Nollywood stars Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and musician Onyeka Onwenu.

The Vice President praised the state’s economic and educational achievements, pointing to thriving commercial centers, strong agricultural production, and institutions such as the Federal University of Technology Owerri and Imo State University. He also identified opportunities in oil and gas, agro-processing, renewable energy, tourism, and the digital economy.

Governor Uzodimma reflected on Imo’s journey since 1976, emphasizing unity, resilience, and digital transformation as keys to future growth. The celebration also featured support from Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Obi of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, and the Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who all commended the state’s progress and leadership.
