U.S. and Ukrainian officials met in Florida for a four-hour discussion aimed at advancing peace negotiations to end the conflict with Russia. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the meeting as “very productive,” underscoring the need for further efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement and highlighting the necessity of involving Russia in any resolution.

The U.S. delegation included Secretary Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, an advisor to President Donald Trump. The Ukrainian delegation, led by Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, emphasized the difficult but productive nature of the talks. Umerov expressed appreciation for U.S. support while stressing the importance of protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and national interests.

Key discussion points included territorial concessions and security guarantees. Although progress was made, significant challenges persist, particularly regarding the Donbas region, where Russia seeks full control. U.S. officials are communicating with Russian counterparts to gauge their stance, with plans for Witkoff to visit Moscow to engage directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As discussions continue, both U.S. and Ukrainian officials remain cautiously optimistic, acknowledging the complexities involved while committing to finding a pathway to peace that ensures Ukraine’s sovereignty and long-term prosperity.
