Tinubu, Shettima to Spend N12.2bn on Foreign, Local Travels in 2026 Budget

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and their aides are projected to spend a combined N12.2 billion on foreign and local travels in the 2026 fiscal year, according to details of the State House budget estimates submitted under the 2026 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly.

The breakdown of the budget shows that foreign travel accounts for the largest share of travel-related expenditure, reflecting the Presidency’s continued emphasis on international engagement despite ongoing fiscal reforms and economic pressures.

For President Tinubu, a total of N7.014 billion was allocated to travel and transport. Out of this sum, N6.14 billion is earmarked for international travel and logistics, while N873.89 million is designated for local travel and transportation within Nigeria.

Similarly, the Vice President’s office was allocated N1.732 billion for travel during the fiscal year. This includes N1.31 billion for international trips and N417.49 million for local movement. In addition, a separate N3.433 billion was provided for travels and transport under the State House Headquarters.

Beyond travel, the budget also outlines several other expenditures within the Presidency. The President’s office received N179.01 million for the purchase of motor vehicles, N375.19 million for food and catering supplies, N79.68 million for drugs and medical supplies, and N56.43 million for refreshments and meals. Overall, the President’s total allocation stands at N8.39 billion, with capital expenditure accounting for N777.19 million.

The Vice President’s office was allocated a total of N2.64 billion, including provisions for welfare packages, publicity, honorarium and sitting allowances, with capital expenditure estimated at N641.39 million.

Meanwhile, the State House Headquarters received a total allocation of N43.20 billion, covering personnel costs, overheads and capital projects. Key items include N11.23 billion for motor vehicles, N7 billion for solar power installation, N8.48 billion for rehabilitation of office buildings, and allocations for wildlife conservation, welfare packages, and maintenance.
