Sultan of Sokoto Declares Christians Should Not Be Governed by Sharia Law

At the 2025 triennial meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar of Sokoto affirmed that Sharia law is strictly for Muslims and should not be imposed on Christians. He underscored the importance of ensuring that no Christian is subjected to Sharia law or court processes designated for Muslims.
