A tragic building collapse in Doornkop, Soweto, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a one-year-old child. At the time of the incident, six people were inside the two-story structure. Emergency services quickly responded, managing to rescue three trapped individuals who were subsequently taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, the three victims succumbed to their injuries. Xolile Khumalo, a spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, confirmed the fatalities and indicated that the case has been referred to relevant authorities for further investigation.

This incident follows another building collapse earlier in December, where a multistory construction atop a Hindu temple in Verulam, near Durban, resulted in five deaths. Initial reports cited one fatality, but subsequent searches revealed four more bos. Investigations into both incidents are underway, aimed at uncovering the causes and preventing similar trages in the future.

The Soweto community is left mourning the loss of its members, particularly the young child. Residents await further details from ongoing investigations, emphasizing the profound impact of these incidents on local families and the broader community.

The dual occurrences have raised urgent concerns regarding building safety and regulations in South Africa, highlighting the need for thorough assessments and enforcement to avert future trages.
