Dr. Timi Tonye, Executive Director of Corporate Services at the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), has praised President Bola Tinubu for his dedication to the development of the South-South region.

Speaking on Tuesday in Patani, Delta State, during the unveiling of the “Patani United Front for Re-Election of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027,” Tonye highlighted the importance of continuity in governance to protect ongoing progress.

In his paper titled “The Imperative for Continuity: A Delta-Centric Case for the Re-election of President Tinubu and Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori,” Tonye emphasized that the 2027 elections should focus on safeguarding the development already achieved rather than political personalities.

“Gov. Oborevwori has shown commitment to every part of Delta. 2027 is about protecting our progress. We have waited too long for meaningful development to start playing politics with progress. What we are building today must be protected tomorrow,” he said.

Tonye noted that from various parts of Delta State, including Burutu, Asaba, Warri, Agbor, Ndokwa, and Isoko Land, residents share a common belief that the state is moving forward. He acknowledged the past frustrations of waiting for government action but praised the current administration for delivering projects, peace, and responsive governance.

He stressed, “2027 is not about personalities. It is about projects, peace, and progress. Let us vote to continue the journey. Let us vote to complete the work. Let us vote for stability, development, and unity.”

Addressing the historical neglect of the South-South region, Tonye said, “For many years, the South-South felt forgotten at the centre, but today, the region can clearly say that it is back on the national development map.”

He credited President Tinubu for demonstrating commitment through meaningful policy decisions rather than mere speeches. Tonye highlighted the establishment of the South-South Development Commission as a landmark achievement, describing it as a focused development vehicle for oil-producing communities, infrastructure for riverine and coastal areas, environmental remediation, and youth empowerment.

“This is not charity but justice,” he said, adding that the commission’s growth requires time and sustained support.

Tonye’s remarks underscore the call for continuity in leadership to ensure that the South-South region continues to benefit from targeted development and remains an integral part of Nigeria’s national progress.
