Manchester United legends Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are reportedly competing for the role of interim manager of the first team until the end of the season.
Daily Mail reports that United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, and director of football, Jason Wilcox, held discussions with both Solskjaer and Carrick on Tuesday. However, a final decision is expected only after a physical meeting.
In the meantime, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team for Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Burnley.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, once considered for the role, is reportedly no longer in contention.
Solskjaer previously served as a temporary replacement for Jose Mourinho in December 2018, a stint that eventually saw him remain in charge for nearly three years. Ironically, Carrick also has caretaker experience, having managed the team for three games following Solskjaer’s sacking in November 2021.
The club’s leadership now faces a crucial decision on who will steer Manchester United through the remainder of the season.
