Shettima Zulum Lead Peaceful Eid Prayers in Maiduguri Amid Tight Security

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum joined thousands of Muslim faithful to observe Eid prayers at Ramat Square in Maiduguri under tight security.

The two unit Eid prayer was conducted peacefully across major prayer grounds in the state marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The large turnout reflected improved security conditions and renewed hope among residents despite years of insurgency in the region.

In his Sallah message delivered after the sermon by Mamman Saleh, the Vice President called for unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens. He reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to tackle insurgency.

Shettima emphasized that restoring lasting peace in the Northeast remains a top priority, adding that the government would continue to confront security challenges decisively.

The Imam urged worshippers to uphold the values of discipline sacrifice and compassion learned during Ramadan. He encouraged Muslims to give charity to the less privileged and continue spiritual practices in the month of Shawwal.

Governor Zulum in his remarks called on residents to renew their commitment to rebuilding Borno into a secure and prosperous state. He commended the resilience of citizens and their support for peace building initiatives despite the impact of insurgency over the years.

The Eid gathering was attended by prominent dignitaries including Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi, Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and other top government officials.
