Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed his call for true federalism and unity in diversity in Nigeria, emphasizing that every citizen should enjoy equal treatment regardless of tribe or ethnicity.

He made these remarks during his 58th birthday celebration and book launch held at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The event was organized by Chief Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South East.

Governor Makinde highlighted the important role of the Igbo people in nurturing the nation through the principles of true federalism. Reflecting on Nigeria’s foundation as a negotiated federation, he stressed the need to create a competitive political environment where all voices are heard.

“I am calling on our brothers and sisters on this occasion of my 58th birthday to play the same role and make the political environment competitive. It will be a great birthday gift for me if we make up our minds and participate to make our voices heard by calling for true federalism of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, we must not be bystanders,” Makinde urged.

In his speech, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by his deputy Patricia Obila, praised Makinde’s leadership and his commitment to institutionalizing good governance in Oyo State. “The book itself is a compendium of wisdom and experience. We are proud of Makinde in terms of delivery of good governance. If we have 80 percent of governors like Makinde, the country will fare better,” Nwifuru said.

Chief Ali Odefa, the organizer of the event, described Makinde as a true friend and a highly detribalized Nigerian. “We are honoring Makinde to show appreciation and thank him for what he has done for us,” Odefa remarked.

The event not only celebrated Governor Makinde’s birthday but also underscored his vision for a united Nigeria founded on equitable federalism and inclusive governance.
