The head of Senegal’s football federation, Abdoulaye Fall, has strongly condemned the decision to strip the country of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, describing it as “the most blatant administrative scam in the history of our sport.”

Speaking at a press conference in Paris, Fall insisted that Senegal would not accept the ruling by the Confederation of African Football. He confirmed that the Senegalese Football Federation has formally appealed the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a bid to defend the country’s honour.

The controversy stems from the dramatic AFCON final against Morocco, where Senegal initially secured a 1 0 victory after extra time thanks to a goal from Pape Gueye. The match, however, was marred by tension after Senegal players briefly walked off the pitch in protest over a penalty decision and a disallowed goal.

Despite returning to complete the match and winning on the field, CAF later ruled that Senegal had violated tournament regulations by leaving the pitch. The decision overturned the result, awarding Morocco a 3 0 victory and the championship title.

Legal representatives for Senegal argued that the ruling undermines fundamental principles of football governance. Sports lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo Perez warned that the case could have far reaching consequences, stating that it is not only African football at stake but the integrity of the global game.

Another member of the legal team, Seydou Diagne, maintained that overturning the result challenges the authority of match officials and violates elished laws of the game. He cautioned that such precedents could shift football disputes from the pitch to courtrooms.

The legal team, which also includes Swiss lawyer Serge Vittoz, is seeking an expedited hearing at CAS, which could deliver a verdict within two months if approved.

Meanwhile, Senegalese authorities have called for a broader investigation into alleged corruption within CAF. French lawyer Pierre Olivier Sur has been tasked with pursuing potential legal action.

Despite the uncertainty, Senegal plans to present the disputed trophy to fans during an upcoming match, signaling its continued belief in its rightful victory.
