Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has made it clear he won’t support the upcoming PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan. He believes the event is surrounded by too much legal confusion and could end up being pointless if court rulings later cancel its outcome.

Saraki shared his concerns during a meeting with the PDP Board of Trustees Reconciliation Team, led by Wakili Adamawa and Ambassador Hassan Adamu. He said the party should pause the convention plans and instead appoint a caretaker committee to manage things until the internal issues are sorted out.

He explained that political problems can’t be solved in courtrooms and urged party leaders to bring everyone to the table for honest discussions. Saraki expressed disappointment that efforts to fix the party have been blocked by competing interests.

In a statement posted on his social media pages, Saraki said he couldn’t lead his supporters into a convention that might harm their political future. He urged PDP leaders to act fast and set up the caretaker committee within two days.

He wrote, “Despite the selfless and arduous efforts by some of us, the Convention has become mired in extensive controversy, both political and legal. This does not bode well for not only our party, but for Nigeria’s democracy in general.”

Saraki warned that the conflicting court orders make the convention’s outcome uncertain. He added, “No serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the platform of the PDP, not knowing whether his or her nomination will be valid or declared null and void.”

He concluded by saying that pushing ahead with the convention would only make things worse. Instead, he called for a fresh approach that could bring peace and restore confidence among party members.
