A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olasheni Ibiwoye, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Kwara State governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, becoming the fourth aspirant in the race.
Ibiwoye formalised his ambition through a letter of intent submitted to the party’s legal adviser, Monsurat Omotoso, during a visit to the PDP State Secretariat in Ilorin. He arrived with a delegation of supporters and political associates and was received by party leaders and stakeholders.
In his declaration, Ibiwoye said his decision to run was driven by a desire to reposition Kwara State for sustainable development and shared prosperity. His policy framework, titled “Securing Kwara First: A Covenant with the People,” outlines five key pillars including security and peace, human capital development, equitable growth, economic transformation, and accountable governance.
Addressing insecurity, he described the situation in Kwara as deeply concerning, pledging to implement a community based security architecture that integrates traditional institutions, local vigilantes, and modern intelligence systems. According to him, security under his leadership would be preventive, people centred, and technology driven.
On youth development, Ibiwoye proposed large scale job creation, ss acquisition programmes, and the elishment of ICT innovation hubs. He also promised reforms in the education sector through improved teaching standards, digital classrooms, and curriculum alignment with global competitiveness.
He further emphasised inclusive rural development, proposing the creation of a Kwara Rural Development Commission to ensure representation across all 16 local government areas. In addition, he pledged to boost agriculture and infrastructure, positioning the state as a major agro export hub within two years through mechanised farming and expanded infrastructure.
Highlighting governance, Ibiwoye stressed transparency, accountability, and citizen focused leadership, noting that all policies would prioritise the welfare of the people.
Reacting to his declaration, Omotoso described his entry into the PDP as a significant boost for the party. Similarly, PDP Deputy State Chairperson Wasilat Atinuke McCarthy commended the aspirant’s vision and policy direction.
She also noted that the party, under the leadership of Bukola Saraki, continues to attract credible figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
